A card index to the General Education Board records, Series 1: Appropriations (Subseries 1.1 – 1.5) is available for researcher use. The GEB Appropriations Index provides indexing to Subseries 1.1 through 1.5 in a single series of index cards, arranged A-Z.

Subseries 1.1: Appropriations – Early Southern Program files are indicated by U.S. state classification numbers. (Example: "Ala 3" = Alabama #3)

Subseries 1.2: Appropriations - Secondary and Higher Education, 1902-1967 files are indicated by index numbers 1 – 918.

Subseries 1.3: Appropriations - Southern Secondary and Elementary Education, 1931-1961 files are indicated by index numbers 919 – 960.

Subseries 1.4: Appropriations - Northern and Western Appropriations, 1905-1961 files are indicated by index numbers 1003 – 4050.

Subseries 1.5: Appropriations - Medical Education, 1905-1961 files are indicated by alpha-numeric classifications (for example: "B" = Medicine ).

The GEB Appropriations Index is located in drawers 19-30 of the 72-drawer cabinet next to the RAC's reading room.

Access and use

Parent restrictions:

Open for research with select materials restricted are noted. Brittle or damaged items are available at the discretion of RAC.

RAC is unable to provide access to obsolete media and original digital media. In addition separated media may not yet have undergone stabilization procedures. When feasible, a digital surrogate may be created via special order. All applicable charges will apply.

Parent terms of access:
Rockefeller Foundation has title, copyright, and literary rights in the collection, in so far as it holds them. Rockefeller Archive Center has authority to grant permission to cite and publish archival material from the collection.
