Rick Whitesell turned a childhood passion into a diverse musical career. His love of music led him to assemble a collection of records, or more appropriately, a collection of music, spanning five decades, dating back to the late 1920s. The collection consists of over 3,500 records and follows the development of music for more than fifty years. Also included in the collection are issues of "Goldmine" magazine, where Rick served as an editor and feature writer, as well as some audio and video tapes containing interviews and performances.

The meetings cover a variety of topics, from local environmental hearings to expansion of the Council, to protecting the Hudson Riverbanks, parks, and hiking trails. The clippings cover topics of environmental importance in and around the Hudson River Valley.

The collection consists of administrative records and files, newspaper clippings, still photographs, correspondence, Scenic Hudson News and Annual Reports, legal materials, agenda and minutes of meetings, as well as a variety of other printed materials. Also included in the collection are files dealing with such topics as dredging, air pollution, Danskammer, the Marcy-South transmission lines, as well as a variety of other subjects.

The Hudson River Valley Commission (HRVC) was formed by Governor Rockefeller and his staff to regulate development along the Hudson River in 1966. This collection primarily consists of the findings from a series of surveys conducted by the HRVC between 1965 and 1970.
