Biographical / historical:

The Albany Civic Theater formed in 1955 when the Ilium Players of Troy and the Albany Dramatic Group joined, filling a void left when The Playhouse theater closed. Initially including approximately sixty members, the Albany Civic Theater group performed in small venues around Albany, including the Albany Institute of History & Art. The group moved to 115 Beaver Street in 1957, where they enjoyed more space and a stage of their own.

The Albany Civic Theater is now housed at 235 Second Avenue. As with other theater venues, the Albany Civic Theater was affected by Covid-19 and closed its doors to live performances during 2020, but intends to reopen in 2021.
