This collection contains a register kept by Leonard Gansevoort Jr. for cases handled by him in the New York State Supreme Court, Albany Mayor's Court, and various county courts.

Biographical / historical:

Leonard Gansevoort Jr., was born in June 1754. Ganesvoort was taught law by Peter Van Schaack and became his family attorney. Gansevoort served during the American Revolution as a patriot, and later became secretary of the Albany Commissioners for Detecting and Defeating Conspiracies. Gansevoort was elected assistant alderman for the third ward in 1778, and worked on council committees for 20 years. Gansevoort was an attorney for many cases in the New York State Supreme Court, the Albany Mayor's Court, and other various county courts. Gansevoort married Maria Van Rensselear in 1777 and had 11 children. Gansevoort died in December 1831.
