The collection contains material relating to the history of Wells College, including newspaper clippings and histories of the college written prior to Dieckmann’s publication of Wells College: A History in 1995. The collection also contains materials relating to Mary Hunter Marsh ’17 and Eleanor Hunter Byrne ’29, including correspondence written by the sisters while students at Wells College, as well as photographs, many undated or unidentified.

Biographical / historical:

Jane Marsh graduated from Wells College in 1955 and married Herbert Dieckmann after graduating. She collected materials relating to the history of Wells College that led to her publication of Wells College: A History in 1995. Two members of Dieckmann’s family also graduated from Wells College: sisters Mary Hunter Marsh in 1917 and Eleanor Hunter Byrne in 1929. The Hunter sisters, originally of Fulton, N.Y., also lived in Wilmington Delaware and were active alumnae following their graduation from Wells College.

The collection is organized by the member of the Hunter/Marsh family that created the item, and a collection of photographs. Effort has been made to maintain the order of the items as they were received.
