This collection contains various records from P.OW.E.R., including meeting minutes and membership records. The collection contains a large amount of information regarding events sponsored by the organization, as well as events sponsored by the college Gospel Choir and another organization, Appointed.

Biographical / historical:

P.O.W.E.R. (Praising Our Work, Ethnicity, and Race) was a student organization of Wells College operating until 2015. The Black Women’s Society (BWS) was established in 1969, and changed its name in 1976 to the Black and Latin Women’s Society (BLWS). In 1987 the organization was restructured as the Minority Women’s Association (MWS). This organization eventually became P.O.W.E.R. The organization served the Wells College community by promoting minority enrollment and inclusion in curriculum, and promoting minority history and culture through programs such as Black History Month and Multicultural Awareness Week/Month.
