Scope and content:

The Muccigrosso Family Papers include Rose Spadaccino’s midwifery records, Muccigrosso family photographs, and genealogical research material.

Biographical / historical:

Donato Muccigrosso (1875-1943) and his wife Rosario “Rose” Spadaccino (1873-1950) immigrated to Elmira, New York, from Macchio Valfortore, Italy in the early 1900s. Donato briefly owned a shoe-repair shop before getting into factory work. He was also a musician who played organ for St. Anthony’s Church and tuba in Elmira’s Italian Band. His wife, Rose, worked as a midwife within the city’s Italian-American community under her maiden name Spadaccino for over 20 years. Their children include Anthony, Lena, Thomas, and Joseph.

The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by Linda M. Farina in 2022.

Restrictions:

The Chemung County Historical Society's research library and archives are open to the public from 1pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday. There is a $5 fee for non-members.
