The Robert A. Long Jr. Papers include slides of Eldridge Park and the Long family; documents related to the Newtown Small Watershed District; and architectural drawings and blueprints related to Eldridge Park.

Biographical / historical:

Robert A. Long Jr. (1901-1983) and his wife Ruth ran the Eldridge Park carousel from 1924 until 1980. Their daughter Kathleen married Donald Bittler, who joined them in the management of the park. Long’s grandchildren include Nancy (born 1951), Douglas (born 1960), Scott (born 1962), and Gregg (born 1967).

Acquisition information:
The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by Joshua Townsend in 2021.

Restrictions:

The Chemung County Historical Society's research library and archives are open to the public from 1pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday. There is a $5 fee for non-members.
