The non-profit coalition focuses on issues such as the dangers of tobacco advertising and the promotion of tobacco-free public spaces. It carries out its mission through bimonthly meetings, media campaigns, educational events, and the publication of a monthly newsletter, A Closer Look. The STTAC frequently partners with local institutions to promote anti-tobacco awareness, and has issued numerous grants to assist area organizations with anti-tobacco initiatives. Throughout its history, the STTAC has also implemented and participated in numerous programs including Baby and Me Tobacco Free, a nationwide initiative to help pregnant women stop smoking, and Reality Check, a local program aimed at promoting a tobacco-free lifestyle among youths aged 13-18.
