Background

Scope and content:

The Elmira 600 Bowling Club Collection contains scrapbooks and photo albums associated with the Elmira Women’s Bowling Association 600 Club, 1975-2011.

Biographical / historical:

The Elmira Women’s Bowling Association formed on August 8, 1938, at Rossi Lanes in Elmira, N.Y., as a local branch of the Women’s International Bowling Congress, Inc. The Association represents women bowlers from the various city leagues and teams and hosts regular tournaments and dinners. It was officially incorporated as a non-for-profit in New York State on April 4, 1975. In 1943, the Elmira Women’s Bowling Association established the 600 Club to honor women bowlers who register league records of 600 or better. Membership in the Elmira Women’s Bowling Association has fallen sharply in the 21st century, but the organization remains active.
