Scope and content:

The Collins-Carr Family Collection includes photographs of the Collins-Carr extended family, 1890-1957; and various family papers including funerary items and newspaper clippings, 1934-1970.

Biographical / historical:

James L. Collins (1885-1962), originally of Pennsylvania, was the son of James B. Collins and Ann Marie Ryan Collins. He worked for the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad on the Elmira-Buffalo line. In 1917, he married Fannie B. Carr (1890-1934). The couple resided at 475 Millard Street in Elmira. Together they had two children, Eileen Collins Webb (born 1921) and an unnamed son who died shortly after birth in 1934. Fannie Carr Collins had one sister, Ethel Carr Manning (died 1961), and three brothers, George V. Carr (1882-1967), Ray E. Carr (1891-1954), and Charles. George and Ray were both residents of Elmira and worked for the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad

Restrictions:

The Chemung County Historical Society's research library and archives are open to the public from 1pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday. There is a $5 fee for non-members.
