Scope and content:

The Collection of the Daughters of the American Revolution contains the minutes of the Chemung Chapter of the DAR from 1897 to 2003.

Biographical / historical:

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) are a national organization of women descended from veterans of the Revolutionary War. The organization works to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. It was founded in 1889 by First Lady Caroline Harrison as part of the centennial of the inauguration of President George Washington. The local chapter, known as the Chemung Chapter, was founded in 1897.

Acquisition information:
The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by the Chemung Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 2012.

Restrictions:

The Chemung County Historical Society's research library and archives are open to the public from 1pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday. There is a $5 fee for non-members.
