The Communications Workers of America Records contains correspondence, contracts, and miscellaneous documents related to labor agreements between the Communications Workers of America Local 1111 and area businesses and municipalities, 1972-2005.

Biographical / historical:

The trade union the Communications Workers of America (CWA) was formed in 1938 under the name the National Federation of Telephone Workers. It became the CWA in 1947. It is currently affiliated with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and other unions. In addition to telecommunication workers, the union represents workers in fields including news media, transportation, health care, and industry. The Elmira-area Local 1111 was founded in the 1970s.

The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by C.W.A. Local 1111 in 2011.

Restrictions:

The Chemung County Historical Society's research library and archives are open to the public from 1pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday. There is a $5 fee for non-members.
