The Mitchell Negatives Collection contains glass plate negatives of photographs taken by Harry B. Mitchell, 1896-1916

Biographical / historical:

Harry B. Mitchell was a dentist in Elmira, N.Y. He was the son of Henry and Susan Mitchell, who ran a boarding house on Lake Street. In 1895, he established a dental firm, Croul & Mitchell, with Dr. Clinton D. Croul at 128 W. Water Street. In 1897, he established his own dental practice at 312 E. Water Street. He remained in practice in Elmira until 1941. In 1908, he married Florence L. Bullock. The extended Mitchell family included Florence M. Mitchell, Harry’s sister; Nellie Mitchell, a cigar maker; and Garry V. Mitchell of 162 Dewitt Street, a carriage painter and Harry’s cousin.

The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by Dewey Booth in 2010.

Restrictions:

The Chemung County Historical Society's research library and archives are open to the public from 1pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday. There is a $5 fee for non-members.
