Scope and content:

The Arctic League Collection includes administrative and financial records, 1919-2000s; photographs 1950s-2010; and assorted promotional material.

Biographical / historical:

The Arctic League began in 1912 as a group of baseball fans who met regularly at Harry J. Lagonegro's cigar store at 157 Lake Street. On Christmas Day 1912, the group found an orphan known as "Friday" and treated him to Christmas. Since then, the Arctic League has raised funds to distribute toys to needy children every Christmas. The Arctic League raises annually through countywide giving appeals and, since 1932, a yearly radio and television broadcasts.

Acquisition information:
The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by Jim Sleeth in 2003 and 2010.

Access and use

Restrictions:

The Chemung County Historical Society's research library and archives are open to the public from 1pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday. There is a $5 fee for non-members.
