This collection contains cabinet card portraits of Chemung County residents produced by various local photographers and photography studios.

Biographical / historical:

The cabinet card was a popular style of portrait photography measuring 108 by 165 mm (4 1⁄4 by 6 1⁄2 inches). It was first introduced in 1860 but did not gain popularity until the 1870s. In the United States, the style had largely died out by 1910.

The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by various individuals.

Restrictions:

The Chemung County Historical Society's research library and archives are open to the public from 1pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday. There is a $5 fee for non-members.
