Scope and content:

The Sarvey Correspondence Collection contains letters and greeting cards sent to Nellie and Bertram Sarvey of Elmira, New York, from 1929 to 1949. Some of the frequent letter writers include friends Franklin & Mary Sohn and Robert & Sally Albee, as well as Nellie’s niblings Edis Rockwell Farren and Frank Welliver.

Biographical / historical:

Bertram G. and Nellie F. Rockwell Sarvey were married on June 16, 1897 in Elmira, New York. Bertram was employed as a train dispatcher for the Northern Central Railroad and was a member of the Jesse L Cooley Masonic Lodge in Elmira. Nellie was a housewife and member of the Chemung Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Over the years, the couple resided at a number of homes within Elmira, as well as in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Bertram died in April 1959. Nellie died on November 23, 1970 at age 93.

The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by H. James Halm in 2021.

The Chemung County Historical Society's research library and archives are open to the public from 1pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday. There is a $5 fee for non-members.
