This collection contains materials relating to the Lamouree Family dating from 1851 to 1911 including receipts, correspondence, certificates, pension documents and the family Bible.

Biographical / historical:

Jarius Lamouree was born on March 4, 1821 in Otsego, New York. On November 23, 1851 he married Christeen Crans (born April 29, 1832) of Big Flats, New York. The couple settled down on their own farm in West Elmira. During the Civil War, Jarius Lamouree served as a private in the 23rd Regiment of the New York Volunteers. He enlisted on December 24, 1861 and was discharged on May 22, 1863. Jarius and Christeen had eight children; James (1852-1873); Mary (1855-1943); Abbey (1858-1890); Daniel (1860-1884); Ann (1864-?); Qunice (1866-1873); Jarius (1874-1945) and Libbe (1875-1897). Jarius died on September 7, 1904 and Christeen died on February 19, 1911.

The items in this collection were purchased by the Booth Library from Anita Cook Enterprises in 2002.

Restrictions:

The Chemung County Historical Society's research library and archives are open to the public from 1pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday. There is a $5 fee for non-members.
