The Nettie Vernooy Collection contains greeting cards, bridge tally cards, knit & miscellaneous material, 1890-1929. The Al Brancato Collection contains materials associated with the Elmira Pioneers Baseball Club, 1953. The William M. Cooper Collection contains materials associated with the American Bicentennial celebrations and Chemung County history.

Biographical / historical:

Nettie Vernooy Sweet (1881-1977) was a member of the Rotary Anns, the Order of the Eastern Star, Lake Street Presbyterian Church, and the Chemung County Historical Society. Her husband, W. Glen Sweet, was mayor of Elmira from 1931 to 1933. Albert Brancato (1919-2012) served as manager of the Elmira Pioneers Baseball Club in 1953. At the time, the Pioneers were a farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers. William M. Cooper (1882-1985) was a charter trustee of the Chemung County Historical Society and was active in a number of local charities. He worked at various times for the American Sales Book Company, American LaFrance, and the Chemung Valley Savings & Loan Association.

Acquisition information:
The Al Brancato Collection was donated to the Booth Library by the Brancato family in 2013. The William M. Cooper Collection was donated by Jane Cooper Holder in 1986. The Nettie Vernooy Collection was given by an unknown donor.

Restrictions:

The Chemung County Historical Society's research library and archives are open to the public from 1pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday. There is a $5 fee for non-members.
