Background

Scope and content:

An advertisement from M. E. Smith & Co. reporting their preparedness to strike presidential campaign medals as soon as the Republicans and Democrats have nominated their candidates on June 3rd and July 8th respectively. Handwritten marginalia in pencil dates this circular as May 1884. The second advertisement is from W. H. Sheafer & Co. dated June, 1884, seeking the “opportunity to furnish Designs and Estimates for any special work in Artistic Jewelry.” The letter has a stamp, origin unknown, specifying “Campaign Medals in Gold, Silver and Copper.”
