This collection contains records from the Cheiron Society, the International Society for the History of the Behavioral and Social Sciences. There are two series in this collection, publications and annual meetings, which include newsletters, a directory, and materials from the annual meetings, such as programs, papers presented, and calls for papers.

Biographical / historical:

The Cheiron Society is the International Society for the History of the Behavioral and Social Sciences. The Society was formed in October 1968 at New York University and consists of persons from various scholarly disciplines interested in the history of their respective fields. The purpose of the Cheiron Society is to promote international cooperation and multidisciplinary studies in the history of the behavioral and social sciences. The organization’s aims are (a) to provide a broad perspective on the history of contemporary scientific activities capable of counterbalancing the narrowness of specialists’ views (b) to broaden scientific perspectives through close cooperation with scholars in other countries, and (c) to strengthen and increase the professionalization of scholarly research in the history of the behavioral and social sciences. Annual meetings are held in different locations in the United States and in Canada. The Cheiron Society publishes The Journal of the History of the Behavioral Sciences.
