Background

Scope and content:

Although the acronym DNA may have stood for Definitive News Analysis, no corroboration has been found in the written record. The staff of DNA were on Rockefeller's personal payroll.

There were two main divisions to DNA, a research group for Nelson Rockefeller. The Domestic Policy staff was overseen by Roswell B. Perkins, while the Foreign Policy Staff was led by Henry Kissinger. In later years, DNA was headed by Oscar M. Ruebhausen. The main function of the organization was to draft position papers and research reports on issues important to the Governor's pursuit of the Republican presidential nomination.
