Two scrapbooks on the high school years and Spanish-American War service of Harvey A. Rosenthal; 2 military service manuals from same war (Manual of Guard Duty, United States Army and Infantry Drill Regulations United States Army, With Interpretations).

Biographical / historical:

Harvey A. Rosenthal lead a nomadic life as a teenager, moving from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Albany, New York during high school. After graduating, he joined the 3rd New York Volunteer Infantry for service in the Spanish-American War. This was a Federalized National Guard unit that was sent for training and guard purposes to northern Virginia. It was mustered out in December of 1898 without seeing any active combat duty.

Gift of Thomas and Anna Bentson, 320 Woodland Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24503. Anna 434-444-1618; Thomas 571-214-1266. Thomas is the great-grandson of Harvey A. Rosenthal and received these materials from his grandmother. A complete history is included in Folder 1.

Good, all volumes show light wear but sound bindings and mostly white paper. Some pasted-in items in scrapbooks deteriorating or loosening.
