Scope and content:

This file consists of 8 documents relating to Louis and Phyllis Ferraro, the Italian immigrant parents of Ron Ferraro. The documents are: a passport, a naturalization certificate, an application for retirement benefits, two death certificates, a labor union handbook, and an alien registration certificate. These documents relate to Americanization, Immigration, and work.

Biographical / historical:

Phyllis and Louis are both originally from the city of Valguarnera Italy. They immigrated to the United States around 1919. Phyllis became a citizen of the United States in 1944. However Louis was not registered in the United States until 1942, and never became a United States citizen. Louis was employed at Dovolo Contracting company, and Phyllis was employed with Hickey-Freeman Clothing company. The couple lived in Rochester New York for 55 years until their passing. Louis passed away in 1962, and Phyllis in 1964.

This collection was donated by the Strong Museum to the Local History and Genealogy division in 2016 [Accession number 2017.031].
Custodial history:

The collection was donated by Ferraro Antiques in February 28th, 1994 to the Strong Museum of Play.
