Owned and operated by Henry Oliver Waugh, the company operated a general hardware store along with contracting for other home maintenance services, particularly the installation of home heating systems. Biographical / historical:

Henry Oliver Waugh was born on May 31, 1904, to George and Clara Straub Waugh of Rochester, New York. Raised Episcopalian at St. Luke's Church, Waugh entered business and became a clerk at Yauchzi Hardware, 773 Lake Avenue. While the documents in this collection suggest that he operated a heating business by 1938 at the latest, it is only in 1942 that H. O. Waugh Hardware appears in the Rochester City Directory, sharing Yauchzi's address at 773 Lake. Over time, Yauchzi's evolved into a plumbing contractor before going out of business, while Waugh took over the general hardware business alongside his heating contracting work. Resident at 103 Lexington avenue, near the store, Waugh continued operating the business until 1990. Waugh married Adelaide McGinness on September 12, 1931; they had no children. Predeceased by his wife, Henry Waugh passed away on July 15, 1993, aged 89.
