The Remembrance Quilt was created by the 1998-1999 Remembrance Scholars with the assistance of experienced quilters and other members of the University community. The year marked the 10th Anniversary of the bombing and the Remembrance Quilt was conceived of by Remembrance Scholar Kimberly Hamilton. With the assistance of experienced quilters like Francis Parks, a Syracuse University staff member and part of the Hendricks Chapel Quiltmakers, Hamilton and the other Scholars designed a quilt that featured a square for each of the 35 Syracuse University study abroad victims. The families were contacted and asked to send materials that had been meaningful to their child and could be used to make the squares. The final design for the quilt was done by Jeanne Riley and features the Dove of Peace, which was designed by Jonathan Hoefer '91, a friend of victim Mark Lawrence Tobin. Tobin's mother, who was also a quilter, offered the Dove for use in the center panel and Hoefer agreed. The Quilt was completed in the spring of 1999.
