Background

Scope and content:

The Wilson Family Papers contain three series: Clippings, Printed materials, and Subject files. The Subject files series includes the personal account of June Wilson, whose farm was on the outskirts of Tundergarth where the cockpit of Pan Am Flight 103 fell and was heavily impacted by debris and the resultant search and investigation efforts. Materials relating to the group U.K. Families-Flight 103 are also found in this series, as issues of the Comunnity Update newsletter produced by Lockerbie's Community Liaison Office in the aftermath of the disaster.

Biographical / historical:

June and Jim Wilson lived on the outskirts of Tundergarth in December 1988 when Pan Am Flight 103 was destroyed by a terrorist bomb over Lockerbie, Scotland. The cockpit of the plane landed in a field near Tundergarth and their farm. Their property became an important location in the search effort as many bodies fell on their land. The Wilsons spent days feeding the police and investigators, facing media intrusions, and dealing with the aftermath of the crash, which would extend into the new year.
