Biographical / historical:

Student publications have been a facet of Syracuse University since its early days. The Syracuse Herald was the first newspaper published by Syracuse University students, with its first issue published in 1872. Several weekly and biweekly publications followed in the first twenty years after the founding of the University, including The Syracusan, The University News, The University Forum, and Syracuse University Weekly. During the 1960s and 1970s, students published several newspapers dedicated to the counterculture movement.
