Scope and content:

The Thomas C. Large Cheerleading Memorabilia contain his cheerleading sweater, pants, and megaphone. The sweater has a patch of a blue megaphone with an orange block “S,” and the pants are white with orange stripes down the sides. The white uniform signifies his captain status. The megaphone has an orange block “S” and his name, “Tom Large,” printed on its side in black letters.

Portrait of Thomas C. Large

Thomas C. Large (1927-2015) was an architect and 1954 graduate of Syracuse University.

Thomas C. Large was born in Buffalo, New York in 1927. He attended Syracuse University under the G.I. Bill and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture in 1954. Large was involved in various extracurricular activities during his time as a student. In his senior year he was president of his fraternity, Alpha Chi Rho, and a member in the Interfraternity Council. He was also involved in the Tau Sigma Delta international architecture and allied arts honorary society, the Gargoyle Society, and Sigma Upsilon Alpha. Large had also been on the frosh swim team and, at one time, was head cheerleader.

In 1954, he married Patricia Large. They lived in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania and had four children.

Large began professional work with the Hayes Large Architects firm in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He specialized in k-12 buildings and notably worked on Pennsylvania State University Altoona’s Edith Davis Eve Chapel. He retired from the firm in 1992.

Large died in September 2015.

Patricia Large donated the Thomas C. Large Cheerleading Memorabilia to the Syracuse University Archives in 2016.
