Scope and content:

The Aaron White Papers contain land surveys of tracks of land within Cazenovia, New York, such as the Public Square, lot #43, and various unknown lands; an assessment roll for Cazenovia, New York; a list of sections in the Delphi Cemetery in Delphi Falls, New York; a photograph of an aerial view of Cazenovia, New York; a schedule for school courses; floor plans of an unidentified building; calculation examples; notes from a geometry lesson; an annual report of the treasurer of the board of trustee of the M.E. Church in Cazenovia, New York; and wills from various estates.

Biographical / historical:

Aaron White was born September 18th, 1824, in Kirkland, New York and died on April 10th, 1897, in Cazenovia, New York. He taught at the Flushing Female Institute in Flushing, New York from 1852 to 1853; the Cazenovia Seminary in Cazenovia, New York from 1853 to 1866 and 1880 to 1890; and was the Principal of the Canastota Union Free School in Canastota, New York from 1879 to 1880. He married Isadore Maria Haight and together they had three children, Cornelia Cushing White Despard, Henry Seely White, and Lucy Blakeslee White Thwing.

The educational materials in this collection are believed to be from White's time as a professor. Any further information on Aaron White is very limited.

Processing information:

The Aaron White Papers were previously processed by Sharon Cooney circa 2000s and reprocessed by Lucy Bell for the 2021/2022 grant funded project from the New York State Parks and Recreation Department to create and publish finding aids for the archives of the Lorenzo State Historic Site.

The Aaron White Papers are arranged into eight series: I. Administrative Records, II. Building Plans, III. Educational Documents, IV. Estate Records, V. Land Documents and Papers, VI. Lists, VII. Photographs, VIII. Schedules. Some series are arranged chronologically by decade.

The Aaron White Papers are open for public research. The Lorenzo State Historic Site archives are open to researchers by appointment only. Please call 315-655-3200 to set up your appointment.
