Biographical / historical:

Four members of the Saratoga Springs City Council rode in Saratoga Casino and Raceway’s special Centennial Celebration Pace on June 27, 2015. The non-wagering, “celebrity” race was created in recognition of the 100th anniversary year of Saratoga Springs becoming a city. Mayor Joanne Yepsen, Public Safety Commissioner Christian Mathiesen, Finance Commissioner Michele Madigan and Public Works Commissioner Anthony “Skip” Scirocco each rode in a two-seat jog cart with a professional harness driver, outfitted with their own colors and helmets for the half-mile race. Saratoga Casino and Raceway donated $200 to a charity of the winner’s choice; $175 to a charity chosen by the second place finisher; $150 to the third; and $125 to the fourth. Yepsen selected the Saratoga Therapeutic Equestrian Program; Madigan picked Camp Abilities Saratoga; and Mathiesen and Scirocco chose the Franklin Community Center.
