This artificial collection of Christmas cards was compiled by combining the items from two collections- the Minnie Bolster Collection and the Elaine Mann Collection. Both women were friendly with Mary Lou and recipients of her cards. The earliest cards feature MaryLou and Sonny’s children and families. After his death and her marriage to John, the cards became quite elaborate and humorous.

MaryLou Whitney, born Marie Louise Schroeder on December24, 1925, was the Social Queen of the Saratoga Springs, NY Season. She married Cornelius “Sonny” Vanderbilt Whitney in 1958. Together, they had one daughter, Cornelia, although both had other children by previous spouses. After Sonny’s death in 1992, Mary Lou married a much younger John Hendrickson in 1997.
