Joel W. Burdick accepted a position as a clerk with the D & H (Delaware and Hudson) Railroad Company in 1879, and moved with his wife to Albany, New York. He eventually rose to the position of passenger agent, and he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. This collection contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, and photographs.

Erastus Corning I (1794-1872) was born in Norwich, Connecticut to Bliss Corning. He moved to Troy, New York at age 13 to work with an uncle, and moved to Albany at age 19 for a job in the mercantile business with James Spencer. Corning had multiple business interests during his life, including Erastus Corning & Co., which bought and sold iron products, involvement in numerous railroad companies, served as Mayor of Albany, a member of the New York Senate, and as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He married Harriet Weld in 1819, and together, they had five children. This collection contains account books, business records, correspondence, financial records, and other materials.

Scrapbooks including topics related to the history of Schenectady, NY, with particular emphasis on the history of railroads, the Mont Pleasant neighborhood, the Westinghouse family and company, local schools and churches, and the YMCA.

This collection contains the records the personal and professional papers of civil engineer Frederic Leach.

John Dunn Murphy worked at the Municipal Gas & Light Company, the Albany Fire Department, the New York State Civil Service Commission, and was an Albany County Court attendant until 1997. This collection contains correspondence, clippings, publications, ephemera, photographs, and photograph albums.

The main photograph collection contains all types of photographic images, from daguerreotypes to contemporary inkjet prints from digital files. The collection also includes glass plate and cellulose acetate negatives. The images are organized into subject series. Most images relate to the people, locations, and events in Albany and other upper Hudson Valley communities. The collection also contains works by contemporary artists.

There are 397 photographs of the various streets and neighborhoods throughout the Albany area taken by a number of unknown photographers collected by Albany native Michael Buonora.

The Posters and Broadsides Collection is a created collection compiled by Albany Institute of History & Art staff and volunteers.

This collection contains items related to Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central, Conrail, and other regional railroads.

William Law Learned Peltz, (1882-1961), was a graduate of the Albany Academy, Yale and the Albany Law School. This collection consists of clippings, transcriptions, journal articles, receipts, letterheads, correspondence, postcards, photographs, pamphlets and prints.
